Or at least the start of one. How would you like to be paid to work in and staff a ghost town? The Bureau of Land Management wants YOU to come and work to help preserve the ghost town of Garnet, Montana.
According to this article from Wide Open Country (.com) Garnet was once a frontier mining town but has been “mostly abandoned” for the last century. In an effort to preserve the town the BLM put out a call for volunteers. Ok, they call it volunteer but then state a stipend is provided as well as a food allowance (sweet!). Huh, every volunteer job I ever had paid zip. Duties are described as giving tours and working in the gift shop. Taxing, very taxing. (I’m using my sarcasm font here. Just so you know.)
The best part – the freedom to explore after closing time and apparently lots of paranormal happenings have been experienced. Second best part, sleeping on site in a provided cabin is FREE! Sounds more like an expense paid vacation at Club Ghost Town.
I’d sign up, but down at the bottom of the article it says they’re no longer accepting applications because they’ve received too many. Ha! Actually I’m really happy and excited for them and the ‘volunteers.’ Sounds like a fantastic opportunity for paranormal investigators and kudos to the BLM for some really clever marketing to get the staffing they need.
Maybe next year…
Would you go and stay for the summer?
